We're a small family run craft cider company who believe in making cider as naturally as possible. Using 100% fresh juice from a specially selected blend of west country bittersweet cider apples and natural yeasts, resulting in ciders that are full of depth and character.
Made from 100% juice from specially selected west country cider apples
We started planting our orchard, situated in a gentle slopping, south facing small valley near the north coast of mid Cornwall in 2014 and now have over 1000 trees of specially selected varieties to date.
We ferment our juice in stainless steel tanks to protect from oxidisation and contamination ensuring a pure fresh apple taste.
We are completely off grid and use electricity generated from our wind turbine and solar panels.
We started by touring the west country visiting orchards and cider makers researching what apple varieties were used in their ciders to choose our favorites and started purchasing and grafting the trees for our orchard.
We found the perfect spot, a small south west facing valley and started planting the orchard in 2014. At first by hand, which was hard going and as we planted more and more we brought an auger for our tractor that really sped the process up.
With over a thousand trees now planted from our specially selected varieties, we use these to graft new trees from semi dwarfing rootstock and continue to plant more trees so that our orchard will grow year on year.
Cuckoo Valley Cider is a small, family run craft cider maker in west Cornwall. We make our Ciders the traditional way, from a blend of west country vintage apple varieties, washed, pressed and fermented at the cider barn in our orchard.
We only use 100% freshly pressed apple juice in our ciders which is then fermented in stainless steel barrels using natural yeasts. After racking the cider it is then left to mature and then bottled all on site at our cider barn.
Our ciders are all suitable for vegans and are gluten-free.
We believe in making craft ciders as naturally and as simply as possible, using the best cider apples and pressing them in small batches. From 100% juice fermented by wild yeasts, producing ciders that are full of depth and flavour and quite simply good traditional cider.
In 2017 our first batch of medium-sweet cider was ready to sell to the public. Although we still had one last issue, the name. We wanted the name to be quite easy to say (or order), to have some element of history behind it and to have something in relation to Cornwall. As our orchard […]
